Carmel Teresa Rizzo

It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Carmel (MacNeil) Rizzo announce that she passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband John Rizzo, sons John “Jackie” (Judy), New Waterford, Ronnie (Cecile), Bedford; Bobby (Grace), Calgary, Albt; daughters Elizabeth “Betty” (Danny) Campbell, New Waterford; Marina Rizzo, Edmonton, Albt; Sylvia (Nelson) McComb, Dartmouth, also a special niece Donna Fraser. She is also survived by her brothers James (Nakie), Ont; William, New Glasgow; sister Diane Hayhurst, Brantford, Ont; grandchildren Johnny, Cynthia, Leah, Dianne, Daniel, Dwayne, Alex, Monique, Mark, Shari, Amanda, Sarah and Connor. As well as 12 great-grandchildren. Carmel is predeceased by her parents John Malcolm & Elizabeth MacNeil; brothers Joseph, Bernard, Dennis, Ronald; sisters Mary Roach, Betty Springhall, Thelma MacIsaac, Dorothy Deweapenaere and Donna Pembroke. Carmel was a devoted Catholic with a very strong believe in her faith and family. She made every effort to celebrate and recognize milestones within her community and family. She was the bond that kept her family connected and ensured everyone felt loved and accepted. Carmel enjoyed getting together with her friends through the CWL and the Ageing Gracefully group. As a Eucharistic Minister she would ensure the sick received communion. A friendly smile and chat was her greeting for everyone she met. Visitation will be held Friday, July 12th, 2013 from 2 to 4, 7 to 9 and a funeral mass will be Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10 am in the Parish of Saint Leonard with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in held Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the parish hall, Convent Street. All are welcomed.
