SERVICE DETAILS UPDATE

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Bruce William Edward Johnson, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on October 6, 2022. Born in Halifax on June 13, 1950, he was the son of the late Daisy (Lively) and William Johnson.

Dad was an avid fisherman and hunter throughout his life and loved being outdoors. During his 18 years living on Cape Breton Island, he and Donna enjoyed many leisurely drives, especially around the Cabot Trail. He was a proud fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and rarely missed a televised game. He was also a Nascar fan, particularly The Intimidator (if you know, you know). He was a country music fan and loved playing his guitars and singing his favorites by Merle, Waylon and George. He enjoyed gardening and harvesting his own vegetables every year and joked about his record tomato crop this year.

Family was important to Dad, and he spent many hours researching his genealogy and family history.

A carpenter by trade, he enjoyed woodworking long after his retirement and was always making projects for his yard and the people he cared for. Early in his career he worked building homes in Halifax and surrounding areas. His skills then led him to work with the Canadian Coast Guard, traveling and repairing/maintaining lighthouses in Nova Scotia and on Sable Island. Nearing the end of his career he had the opportunity to travel to Iqaluit, building houses in the community.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Donna (Oliver), brother Paul, children Deborah (Brad) and Terrence (Dawn), grandchildren Taylor, Madison Devyn, Brooke, Christopher, Brody and Cayden as well as 3 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sister Sandra (Boutilier) and brother Glenn.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care and compassion of McLellan Funeral Home in New Waterford. A funeral service will be on July 15th at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Beaver Bank, 28 Trinity Lane, Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia B4G 1C1.
