September 30, 1914 — May 7, 2015

Bessie Helen Macgibbon

Bessie Helen MacGibbon passed peacefully into the hands of our heavenly Father, with dignity and grace, just as she lived her life, on May 7, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Bessie was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law and friend. Born September 30, 1914, in Sydney, she was the daughter of Joshua J. and Lilia (King) Baker (England), and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Bessie was a dedicated member of Calvin United Church, a proud life member of the United Church Women, PM of former MacLeod Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and life member of Queen Elizabeth Chapter, Sydney. She loved life, attending church, OES meetings, gardening indoors and out, (and could get anything to grow), oil painting, ceramics, knitting, baking, decorating, entertaining family and friends, and picking berries with Dad until dark. She was kind and gentle of spirit, and always concerned about the well-being of others. Above all Bessie loved her family, both near and far, and we loved her with all our hearts and will miss her forever.

Survived by her beloved family, daughter, Arlene, son-in-law, Brian McKeigan, with whom she resided, daughter-in-law, Lorraine (Ray Cameron), granddaughters Gayle (Randolph), Marilyn (Paul), great-grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel, Josiah, Brooke, Connor, Cooper, brother-in-law, Dave (Ann) MacGibbon, sister-in-law, Rita MacGibbon, and many adoring nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her husband, Hector, only son, Malcolm, sisters, Lilia (Clinton) MacDonald, Bertha (Bill) Somers, brothers, Joseph (Margaret) Baker, Victor (Bessie) Baker, Arthur (Mary) Baker. Also predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Gus (Edie) MacGibbon, Bill MacGibbon, George (Rita) MacGibbon.

Visitation will take place Saturday, May 16th, 2015 from 7 – 9 p.m. at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford.
