It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Bernard Norman Carmichael on November 26, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Eskasoni, he was the son of the late Archibald and Margaret (McPhee) Carmichael.
Hoagie was well decorated while serving his country with the Canadian Army. During his 25 year career he served overseas In Korea, Cypress and two tours in Germany with the Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD’s) and the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) eventually returning home to Cape Breton.
He is survived by his sons Norman (Laura Lee), Halifax, and Kenneth (Maryann), Halifax; sisters Rhodena Johnson (Donald), Sydney, Carol MacLellan (Danny), East Bay, Phillis Youden (Ron), Sydney; brothers Roderick, Florida, Jack (Margaret), Whitney Pier, Archie, Sydney; grandchildren Stacy (Ryan), Sydney, Annette, Beaver Bank, Jacquelyn, New Waterford as well as great- grandchildren Duncan, Hazel, Winston and Joel. He was also survived by his special friends, dogs Duchess and Fancy.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife Eunice; sisters Marie and Florence; brother Elmer; grandson John Norman and a daughter in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. A chapel service will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. A luncheon will be held at K.O.C Hall, Plummer Ave, All are welcome. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Avenue, New Waterford.
