There are no words to express how heartbroken we are to announce the passing of Barry Joe on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the age of 52. Barry was the son of Teresa (Gillis) and the late Angus (Buster) Bates.

He is survived by his wife Wanda (Martin) and their three children Jaret. Faith and Rohan, who were his proudest accomplishments and meant the world to him; his mother Teresa, sister Donna (Wilbur), Calgary; brothers Martin (Rosemary), South Bar, Terry (Charlene), Gary (Michelle), both of New Waterford; father-in-law Elton Martin, New Waterford. sister-in-law Kathy (Wayne), Sydney and brother-in-law Elton JR (Val), Ontario. Barry will also be missed dearly by many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless close friends.

He was predeceased by his father, mother-in-law Florence, brother-in-law Blair and step- mother-in-law Rose.

At a young age, Barry excelled and enjoyed playing baseball and hockey which he played for many years before turning his hand to coaching minor hockey. He was a lifetime fan and supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In his teenage years his attention turned to horses and a passion for harness racing developed. In partnership with his brother Martin, Barry went on as an owner, trainer and driver of more horses than we can mention.

Barry was employed by the CBRM where many close friendships were developed. He also was a member of the KOC of New Waterford where he occasionally tended bar.

Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held Monday (today), April 18th from 6-9 p.m. and funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 19th at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel, Ave. with Father Jim Oliver officiating. Following the service, a luncheon will take place at the K.O.C. on Plummer Avenue.

Barry was a man of few words who was the epitome of actions speak louder than words. He will live on in our hearts forever and never be forgotten.
