It is with deep sadness we announce the death of our father, grandfather and brother who passed quietly at home on August 14, 2015 with his loving family at his side. Born May 15th 1928, he was the son of the late Dan C. and Ethel (Sheppard) MacNeil.
Art grew up and spent most of his life living in Scotchtown where he took great pride in his family and home. Art also enjoyed many summers at his cottage in Mira where he enjoyed water activities, many good card games and playing horseshoes along with his wife Marie and their good friends, John and Hattie Cashin.
Art who worked in several of the local mines throughout his life became an entrepreneur opening the first pizza shop in New Waterford, The Maria Lena in partnership with his nephew Leo Bellefontaine
In his senior years Art enjoyed many years with his dear wife Marie as members of Club 55 and The Steelworkers Pensioners Club where they played both darts and shuffleboard and also were avid bowlers for many years.
A wonderful father he is survived by daughters, Donna (Tom), Debbie (Brian), Sharon (Donnie) Janet (Warren), and his son Arthur. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Dan, Francis, Donnie, sister Mary Emma, sister and brother-in-law Delores and Teddy MacSween, sister-in-law Anita Dragatis Gadd and companion later in life Marg Delaney.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Marie (Dragatis) in 2003 and siblings Dorothy Bellefontaine, infant brother and sister Alexander and Catherine.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 17, 2015 from 7-9 p.m. in the funeral home. A chapel service to celebrate Arthur’s life will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. in the McLellan Brothers Chapel, Plummer Ave. with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial will be held in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. Family flowers only.
