Anita (Tighe) MacKenzie, 77
New Victoria

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, Anita MacKenzie on June 27, 2021.

Mom was a devoted wife of 55 years to the love of her life Winston MacKenzie. Their love was inspiring; if you had the opportunity to spend time around them you knew that bond was unbreakable. Her vigour for life was unmeasurable and her desire to live was unmatched. She commanded the presence of any room with her quick wit and sense of humor. Through all of her battles she never once complained and thanked God for every day she had on earth. Mom’s faith never wavered which was truly remarkable. She was a true warrior of God.

In her early years she worked at New Waterford Hospital, and Vogue Cleaners as a seamstress in New Waterford, but her true calling was a homemaker where she enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. Jiggs Dinner and Seafood Chowder were her specialty, and her baking was out of this world.

Mom enjoyed bowling with dad and playing Bingo, but her favorite pass time was playing Tarbish with her partner Lovie. Mom and Lovie proudly won the World Tarbish Championship; she held that trophy with pride. To all of her Tarbish friends know she loved each and every one of you. You all held a special place in her heart. Go get two 50’s and Bella!

Mom is survived by her loving husband, Winston; her two children Winston (Midori), Jolene (Shane) and her four grandbabies that were the light of her life; Victoria, Kendall, Maxwell, and Morley. Sisters; Verna, Anna, Catherine, Lovie, and Agnes, brothers Vince (Lorraine) and Harry (Stella). Sisters in law; Elaine, Colleen, Polly, Mary, Trina, Sharon, and Colleen, brothers in law Johnny and Willie. Special niece, Stella Corbett, and special nephew and godson Teddy McRury. God daughter Tammy McNeil and Godsons; Trevor Murphy, William MacKenzie, and Vincent Currie. Special friend Krystle Grezel who was like a daughter to her. Also left to mourn are many nieces and nephews who she adored dearly, cousins and friends.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Jack and Lena Tighe, infant sister Victoria, sisters; Willena and Victoria, brothers; Tommy, James, Jackie, Eddie, Frances, and Tony. She was also predeceased by her parents in law, Joe and Martha MacKenzie, special God daughter Judith Anne Tighe, sisters in law; Carmel, Anita, and Jessie, brothers in law; Bernie, Buddy, Don, John L., Horace, Mike, and Billy.

Donations in mom’s memory can be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice. Our family would like to send a special thank you to Raylene Tighe for all that you did for mom, all the staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Center, and to Dr. Lowry and the nurses at New Waterford Hospital who provided us with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at 11am, in the Parish of Saint Leonard, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Livestreamed at https://youtu.be/YaPAiXNZ8lU
