Allen Robert McKay

It is with great sadness, we the family of Allen Robert McKay, announce his sudden passing on November 26, 2023. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Charles and Katherine (Marriott) McKay.
Allen always had a passion for driving, in the 80’s and 90’s he enjoyed driving his stock-car #61 at Riverside Speedway. Allen was a delivery truck driver before opening and operating a driving school for close to 20 years in Antigonish. He also loved the outdoors, enjoyed playing baseball, hunting and fishing. Allen loved playing music at dances and weddings.

In his retirement, he made every effort to be closer to his grandchildren, moving from one side of the country to the other to ensure he would not miss them growing up. Allen was a devoted grandfather; he was so proud of them.
Allen is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Anita (MacIsaac); his children, Michelle, Robbie, Adam (Amanda), and AJ McKay; grandchildren Alexis, Alyssa, and Austin McKay; brother Wayne (Shirley) McKay (Arcadia); brothers-in-law, Dan (Ann) MacIsaac, John (Ann Marie) MacIsaac, Gerard (Rhoda) MacIsaac;  sisters-in-law, Mary (Brian) Cooke, Diane (Donnie) Cooke, Marilyn (Joe) Reck and Diane MacIsaac. As well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, Allen was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Ann (Bill) Lunn; triplet brothers James, Robert and William, who passed away shortly after birth, and his brother-in-law Willie MacIsaac.
A special thank you to EHS and RCMP for their professionalism and empathy during this difficult time. Donations can be made to the Parkinson's Society or charity of your choice.
Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of McLellan Funeral Home, 3188 Plummer Ave New Waterford. A Celebration of Life to honour Allen will be held on Saturday December 16th from 2-4p.m. at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Center 84 Kenwood Dr. Sydney. His Journey’s Just Begun

By Ellen Brenneman

Don’t think of him as gone away
his journey’s just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched…
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.
