It is with deep sadness that we, her family, regret to announce the
peaceful passing of our mother Ada MacDonald, 83 of Ellsworth Ave., New
Waterford on Friday, August 11, 2017 at the An Cala Care Unit at the C. B. Regional
Hospital after a brief illness. Born December 14, 1933 in Sydney, she
was the daughter of the late Graham and Ella Mae (MacDonald) Mortimer and lived for many
years on Prince St. in the Ashby area before moving to Low Point with
her parents and four sisters at the age of twelve.
She always said it was her father's wish that the girls grow up somewhere in the country rather
than in the city. It was in Low Point where she met her husband Vindy who was working in the St. Alphonse graveyard near her home at the time. They married on July 1,1952 and then moved to New Waterford to raise their family.
In her younger years, Ada worked at the Vogue Theatre,Sydney and later for Gaffen's Dept. Store, Eaton's and the New Waterford Homemakers. Ada was a member of the New Waterford Minor Hockey Mothers, St. Agnes CWL, Pensioner's Club and a member of the same card club for over 55 years. She was an avid skater, bowler, swimmer, loved to knit, crochet, sew, crafts and gardening. She and Dad loved to travel around Cape Breton and for many years travelled to
Alberta to see their boys and families. She spoke many times of her memorable trips shopping in Bangor and Boston with the "Club'. Mom and Dad's favorite pastime was dancing and for years attended the monthly dances at Mt. Carmel Gym.
Ada is survived by her husband of 65 years, Vincent "Vindy" MacDonald; daughter Debbie (the late Jimmy) Sutherland and son Bradley (Laura) of New Waterford; son Ronnie (Sandi) of New Victoria and sons Vincent (Lynn) and Mark (Joelane) of Rocky Mountain House. Alberta; sister Dolly Quinn; brother-in-law Martin MacKinnon; also grandchildren Chris, Sherri-Lynn, David, Holly, Chantelle, Kayla, Justin, Jillian, Jonathan, James, Ryan, Madison and Cassidy and great-grandchildren Liam, Logan, Blair, Mason, Natalie, Kayden, Korbyn, Vincent and Ally as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Ada was also predeceased by sisters Gloria MacKinnon, Ilyah Cormier and Norma Maxner Sager, brothers-in-law Leo Quinn, Wilfred Cormier, Fred Maxner and Jack Sager and son-in-law Jimmy Sutherland.
