He was an avid reader and bowler, an active member of the Church (St. Agnes Men’s Club and St. Vincent de Paul), and liked to watch his favorite sports teams: the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs. He loved his family dearly. Da was lovingly cared for during his final years by his daughter Berna and son Tommy.

He is survived by 13 children: Anita, (Ronnie MacCuish), Maurice (Marina), Connie (Ricky Parsons), Nicky, Anna (Will Sabourin), Berna (Bernie Boutiler), Kelly (Bob Greer), Jimmy (Ann Marie), Johnny (Chelsa), Tommy, Cathy (Garett Burke), Mary (Janet), and Samantha (Dee Kumar). He is also survived by Evelyn Girrior (mother of his children), his best buddy Nala, 17 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousin Annie Fortune, and special family member Les Feener.

Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by brothers Eddie, Maurice, John, James and Clyde; sisters Marion Betts and Irene in infancy.

A church service, in celebration of his life, will take place on Tuesday, May 7th at 10 AM in the Parish of Saint Leonard with Father Ray Huntley officiating, followed by a luncheon at the K.O.C., Plummer Ave., all are welcome. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500.

A special thank-you to the staff of the Emergency Department, ICU, and Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for all their professional care during this difficult time. Your compassion and care was greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Vincent de Paul, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
