Louisa Francis Ranson

August 18, 1929 — November 18, 2022

It is with broken hearts that the family of Louisa Francis Ranson (Sutherland) announce that Louise received her wings from God and rose to Heaven on November 18th, 2022, at the Glace Bay General Hospital at the age of 93.

Louise was born in Sydney on the 18th of August 1929 to Catherine (Hill) and John Sutherland. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a great-great-grandmother, and was very happy and proud with each of these roles she played. Louise had a very strong faith and never faltered from it through all of the ups and downs on life’s road. She always said, “God never gives us anything that we are not strong enough to handle.”

Louise was a dedicated volunteer, giving many hours to the Saint Anne’s Society through Mount Carmel Church (St. Leonard’s). She was also a member of the Lioness Club of New Waterford, enjoying working with all her fellow Lionesses. Louise’s most loving and proud volunteer work was the time she spent with “her” children at Mount Carmel School’s JOY Program. She truly loved the children and was always excited about teaching them cooking, sewing and other valuable life skills. It was truly a happy time in her life. Louise always loved her time spent with her card club for over 30 years, and her daily walk with her friend Hughena Roach.

Louise had a most loving, precious and wonderful sister Mary. She was an “Earth Angel” and had so much love for Louise and her children. Mary’s children were also precious and loving and Louise loved them all dearly and enjoyed time spent with Aunt Mary and her children at Mary’s daughters’ home in Englishtown. Louise had many fond memories of the time she shared with them and spoke of them all with warm hearted affection.

Left with their memories and love for Mom to sustain them, are three sons: Wally (Norma) Reg (Tina) and Danny (Sheri). She is also survived by four daughters: Mary (Kirk) MacLennan, Linda Ranson (Rollie Clark), Clara (Kevin) Kearney and Joan (Noel) Pitts. She is also survived by a loving, chosen, daughter of both dad and mom’s hearts, Ruthie (Jerome) Pottie. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her in-laws Veronica (Sis) Macdonald (Regis MacDonald – deceased), Rene McDonald and Patsy MacDonald.

Louise was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years John Wallace Ranson and her youngest son Robert Roland (Toni) Ranson and two children in infancy, her parents Catherine and John Sutherland, her Stepfather Thomas Noman and her sister Mary. Louise was also predeceased by her very best, life-long friend Mary Maine. She was also predeceased by her in-laws Henry Ranson, Mary Ellen and John L Macdonald, Clara (Tom) Pearson, Art Ranson, Buddy (Beatrice) Ranson, Jean (Ginger) Hillier, Ida (Murf) Murphy, Frankie (Theresa) Ranson, Victor McDonald, Angus McDonald, and Albert (Shirley) McDonald.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of McLellan Funeral Home in New Waterford. At Louise’s request there will be no visitation. Funeral mass to be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday November 30th at the Parish of Saint Leonard in New Waterford. Interment to follow at Saint Agnes Cemetery with Father Godwin Obike officiating.
