It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Kevin Paul (Crackers) MacCormick, announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief battle with cancer on December 31, 2019. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late John and Olive (O’Handley) MacCormick.
Kevin was a coal miner for 30 years of his life in which he worked in Phalen, Lingan and Prince Mine. He took great pride in his work. He was an easy going man who loved spending time with family and friends. Kevin was a devoted husband to his wife and was a father who his daughters knew they could rely on, always.
Surviving are his daughters; Amanda (Adam) McKay, Janaia (David), Rebecca (Todd), grandchildren; Alexis, Alyssa, and Austin, sisters; Velma (Jordon) Walsh, Bev (Alvin) O’Brien, and Roselynn, brothers; Stevie (Valerie), Raymond (Kim), Bobby (Linda), Blaise (Lori), Joe (Laurie), mother-in- law Margaret Bota, sisters-in- law Frances and Agnes. He will also be missed by many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Sheila, brothers Allie and Brian, two brothers in infancy, sister-in-law Darlene and father-in-law Frank Bota. His daughters are finding comfort during this difficult time knowing their parents are together again.
We the family would like to take this time to thank the doctors and nurses at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, especially those of the Palliative Care unit for their exceptional care and comfort during this difficult time.
Cremation has taken place. A chapel service will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at 11 am, in the McLellan Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Interment will be in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the K.O.C. on Plummer Avenue.
