George Emanuel Mac Neil

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of George Emanuel MacNeil, 80, on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, with his nephew Roddie MacNeil by his side, who was like a son to George, at the Yaletown House Residential Care, Vancouver, B.C. Born in Deepdale, Inverness County, he was the son of the late Laughlin and Mary Flora (MacKinnon) MacNeil. George worked as a logger in the Forestry Department of Vancouver, Ontario, and other parts of British Columbia until his retirement. George spoke and sang Gaelic songs for the residences of his Yaletown home. He loved to entertain, read poetry and listen to his bagpipe music with the company of his nephew Roddie. George was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his daughter, Georgina and her husband Samuel Newman of Lingan. He is also survived by his grandson, Samuel R. Newman whom he loved dearly and was so proud, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him very much. Besides his parents he was predeceased by daughter, Margaret 'Peggy', sons, John Brian and Glenburg James MacNeil, and one grandson; brothers, Roddie, Dan Joe, Alex, Neil, Lauchie, Donald MacNeil; sisters, Mary Pelton, Catherine Maclellan, Margaret Kelly, Betty (Gillis) MacLellan. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place in Vancouver, B.C. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Knights Of Columbus Hall, 3226 Plummer Ave., New Waterford and all are welcomed to attend. Interment will be in Broad Cove at a later date. Donations in George's memory can be made to the charity of one's choice.
