Celestina "Stella" Heinekamp

March 24, 1939 — April 2, 2016

It is with great sadness we, the family, announce the passing of Stella Heinekamp on Sat. April 2, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Waterford on March 24, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John and Stella (Power) Hinchey.

Stella was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. As an avid community volunteer, Stella reached out to many and enjoyed all she did for her family and friends. She was a member of the Legion for many years and past treasurer. Stella also enjoyed playing cards, bowling, darts, going to penny auctions and country music. She loved to volunteer; luncheons at the Legion, Heart and Stroke campaigns, the Cancer Society drives and the yearly poppy campaigns all received her undivided attention. Most of all, she loved to be “Out on the Mira” at the trailer sitting around a cheerful camp fire with good friends and family.

Stella is survived by her husband Bernard (Sonny); daughters Brenda (Jack), Maureen (Kenny), Donna, Sheila (Nick) and Anita (Colin) and son Blair (Cheryl); sisters Judy (Lawrence), Deanie, Florence and Jacquline (Melvin); grandchildren Brenda Lee (Corey), Gregory, Lisa (JW), Jennifer (Derek), Billy, Blaine, Blair, Wayne, Jason, Brendon, Maria, Megan and Aiden; great-grandchildren Haley, Jade, Kaine, Marissa, Brianna, Xander, Claire, Vanessa, Alyssa, Owen, Aluk, Skylar and Arionna.

Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her son John; sisters Marjorie, Peggy, Christina, Shirley, Dorothy (Dotty) and twin girls in infancy; brothers David James, William (Slugger), Edward (Ned) and David.

Cremation has taken place. A chapel service will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 11 AM with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Royal Canadian Legion, Plummer Ave, all are welcome. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Waterford Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 15), Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
