Carolyn Mary (DiPenta) RizzettoNew WaterfordIt is with deepest regret that we, the family of Carolyn Mary Rizzetto, announce her passing after a long courageous battle with cancer. Carolyn was born on June 23, 1936, at Northside East Bay. She was the daughter of the late Rocco and Janet (MacDonald) DiPenta. She dedicated her entire life to serving the New Waterford community; she helped many people with her volunteering efforts. During this time she received many awards. She was a volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross for over 45 years. She was a sitting member of the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women. She held many executive positions with the Federal and Provincial Liberal Party. She was the first women elected to the New Waterford Town Council. In addition, she was a member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club, past president of the Scotchtown Pensioners Club. She owned and operated the Maria and Rona Clothing Boutique and several restaurants in Cape Breton. After her children had grown she returned to university and earned her bachelor degree in Community Studies from St. FXU. She was an avid dart player, loved a good card game, the outdoors and above all loved being a grandmother.She leaves behind her husband and friend, Glaudio Joseph Joe Rizzetto; son, Joseph Jr. (Carol Kennedy) Rizzetto, their children, Maria, Tony, Gianni and Sophia; daughter, Maria (Christopher Mutch), their children, Julianna, Robert, Victoria and Bruce; daughter, Rona and her daughter Katie and great-granddaughter, Olivia Barnaby. Katie lived with her grandmother and she will miss her best friend and companion. Sister, Theresa Jones, New York; brother, Ronald (Micka); numerous nieces and nephews; life-long friend, Janice ONeill and her daughter, Tracey (George); granddaughters, Livia and Nicole. A special thank you to Janice, who has been there with her, during the long-travelled road of life. They shared the good times, bad times, tears and laugher, especially the last weeks of her time on earth. Janice was there unconditionally around the clock and released her hand to God when he arrived to bring Carolyn home. Besides her parents, Carolyn was predeceased by her brother, Michael and granddaughter, Sondra Carolyn.A funeral mass of celebration will take place Thursday, Dec. 30 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonards, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, with Fr. Douglas MacDonald officiating. Immediately following the services a reception will be held in the parish hall at 310 Convent St.Donations may be made in her honour, directly to the Canadian Red Cross.

A funeral mass of celebration will take place Thursday, Dec. 30 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonards, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, with Fr. Douglas MacDonald officiating.
Immediately following the services a reception will be held in the parish hall at 310 Convent St.
