Obituaries

It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts the family announces the passing of their darling mother, Joan on March 31, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Waterford, Joan was the daughter of the late Alexander Joseph and Bridget Elizabeth (Neville) Beaton. Joan retired from the Royal Bank of Canada after many years working there, where she met and made many friends. She was a member of St. Agnes C.W.L. and took part in all aspects of the church, did bookkeeping for the New Waterford Scouts, and volunteered her services to the Canadian Diabetic Society and most importantly, her family was everything to her. Joan is survived by her husband, Kenny, daughters Barbara (Fred) Gurney, Antigonish, Beth (Neil) MacDonald, Sydney, Catherine, of New Waterford; sons Wayne, Robert (Diane), Grand Prairie, Christropher (Jackie), Kamloops and Brian; grandchildren Shaun Daniel (Cristal) Purdy , Amber Purdy, Joshua, Lauchlin and Myra MacDonald, Garett and Kevin Gurney and great-grandchildren Emily and Shaun Jr. Purdy, sisters Marg (Ken) Matheson, and Mary (Rick) Mamak, both of Ontario. As per Joan's request, as she did not want a fuss, there will be no visistation. Direct cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations can be made to the ALS Association or the Canadian Diabetic Society.
